Long rant. I don’t understand why some people are so butt hurt. It’s always been written on the wall Ian and TJ was gonna be end story. Ian and Jo’s relationship has always been shallow or at least one dimensional – how ever much Ian hated being a gangster, he was one, a pretty damn good one at that. That has been part of his identity, undealt with. Just look at how he solves problems— his first instinct has always been a gangsters reaction. Dude needed to take a good look at that side of himself and truly heal, and being with Jo wasn’t doing that for him – Jo was a symbol for what he had lost from the very beginning: innocence, a healthy family, and a hope for future. But that future was never Ian’s, it was Jo’s. Ian did not have anything going on for himself, he was okay going anywhere Jo was gonna go. The whole reason he was gonna go was to run from TJ. It’s not about a future with Jo, it’s about a future away from his relationship with TJ, away from his own past. Which, is not a good sign at all. Throughout their relationship he was hiding a huge part of himself, until the very end. That is not how a healthy or even a good relationship works. And more importantly, Ian could not NOT think of TJ even when he’s with Jo. That relationship is doing sighting good for Jo, not in a positive way. I don’t understand why someone who likes Jo would want that for him.
On the other hand, however “toxic” TJ and Ian’s relationship might be, their relationship is multi dimensional. It’s young love, it’s trauma bonding, it’s saving each others lives, it’s comradeship, its guilt, its family, its lust, it’s hurt, resentment and love tangled together. It’s literally life and death for them a lot of times. You don’t move past something like that just because you met someone new that gave you a space to breathe, you move past that after you do major work to heal yourself. And for them nobody can understand that journey better than each other. Now did Ian and Jo heal themselves? In the story I don’t think it was depicted specifically that way – but that’s what the 2 year apart was about. Then they get back and they heal together: again, nobody understands the journey better than each other.
Anyway. As I said it has been always written on the wall. Was Ian and TJ’s love healthy? No. Was it toxic? Yes. But it was such a strong love that survived all the trauma, pain and guilt too. Their lives after the ending could still be bumpy, there will still be major work to do, but that’s just life. Nothing is ever simple or easy , or even clean, for wounded people.
Look… i like TJ xD But can we agree TJ was a completely toxic red flag who deserved to end up alone? I mean, he did awful things… Ian was a red flag on it’s own, so they kinda deserve each other… i like the ending xD Jo deserved better, even if i didn’t like him as a character

Ian also used Jo for quite a while, and even cheated on him with TJ at the end… they are meant to be together. Jo was the guy guy here xD
