Kiss Me If You Can [NOVEL] - Chapter 5
“What is everyone looking at? Stop!”
“Sr. Miller. Stop!”
“Come on, damn it!”
“What are you doing…? Wait, Mr. Miller!”
Everyone was staring and screaming. Josh chewed and swallowed a profanity and ran frantically. Nothing has changed from then until now.
As he watched the Desert Eagle in Chase’s hand, he tried to do everything in his power to protect the paparazzi just like the rest of the bodyguards. It wasn’t Chase they were supposed to protect, but the paparazzi while still holding the Desert Eagle in his hand.
Bang
Again the shots rang out, Josh screamed. It was fortunate that he was able to pounce on Chase’s body and take the gun away from him, but he burned himself from grabbing the hot barrel. Isaac yelled urgently behind Josh, who threw the gun to the ground.
“Josh! God, are you okay?” He asked eagerly.
As his hands burned, he looked back. Suddenly, the security team was struggling with Chase to calm him down. Thanks to that the scent of his pheromones mixed with other scents, which was good for Josh.
“Oh, eh, uh.”
The paparazzi who was sitting on the ground burst into tears. The floor was soaked with his urine. His head was bleeding because the missile bullet had grazed him.
Josh was annoyed by the man who was bleeding in his wet pants and shaking like he had lost his mind.
“What are you doing? Go away quickly.”
The more time that passed, the more likely Chase would go even crazier. Even now, the sound of the guards being struck from behind was barely audible.
Daring to invade Chase Miller’s private life, it was obvious that he was dealing with an idiot who knew nothing about the world or was risking his life because he had no money. Chase has kept the paparazzi away since they tried to take a photo of him half-naked at his home. Of course the privacy of the stars is desired by the public.
However, even though his life was at stake, the man was still shaking and unable to move. Josh got irritated and grabbed his cheeks and yelled at him:
“You do not listen to me? Leave now!”
The paparazzi who was scared got up from the ground and ran away fiercely. Inadvertently, Josh gritted his teeth. Now that man learned a little about the world. At least now he knew better than to go near Chase Miller.
Not so far away was the camera with pieces of it scattered on the ground.
The cost of saving lives and the price of a camera, Josh thought.
He looked at the measly high-performance camera lens that cost up to tens of thousands of dollars, and a little fear slowly emerged.
Meanwhile, the situation was resolved to some extent. The bodyguards immediately moved away from Chase, as soon as they realized that the cause of the incident had disappeared. Josh faced the face of the man he had long avoided.
It’s crazy. Inadvertently he almost said it.
Chase Miller seemed to be able to kill people just by standing there, even without emitting pheromones.
Josh turned to the dominant Alpha’s own purple eyes and it wasn’t just the overwhelming feeling. Chase’s eyes, always slanted, looked directly at him. At that moment, his heart shook horribly, fear and intense emotion surged. He stopped breathing and felt his life threatened, even though his scent was not visible. All of that was infinite encouragement for Josh.
“You.”
For the first time he opened his mouth.
When he heard the voice, he was lost.
Chase smiled slowly at Josh, who was just staring at him. An incredibly sunny smile.
“Want to die?”
Nobody opened their mouths. He thought of escaping, but there was no place to go.
Josh answered with difficulty:
“No.”
“Then why?” Chase asked, still grinning widely. It didn’t seem possible, but it was a fresh smile like a teenager’s.
However, he moved his fingers slowly, although he was still far from Josh, he felt fear, as if he was going to strangle him immediately. It seemed that he would really die, if he gave the wrong answer.
If it weren’t for Pete, he’d be willing to break his neck. Withstanding a dangerous impulse, Josh had to clench his fists. Fortunately, the Desert Eagle was thrown into the distance. He will not be shot to death, he thought uselessly and replied:
“I was afraid you would get dirty.”
“Ah?”
Chase frowned.
Other bodyguards looked at him in surprise. Josh added hastily, feeling his gaze:
“If you fire a gun from that close, it’s going to splatter blood. The suit is also going to get dirty …”
Chase looked at him silently. He was trying to find out if he was serious. Josh added:
“I thought you wouldn’t want to get the blood of a paparazzi.”
After a few endless seconds, Chase spoke:
“Test it.”
Josh didn’t understand what he was saying at the time, he blinked in surprise. Chase frowned, still smiling, and gently cast his gaze to the side, directing him towards the Desert Eagle that had been thrown by Josh. At that moment he realized the meaning in hindsight, he hastened to pick it up.
The heavy silence continued as he leaned forward, picked up the gun, turned, and addressed Chase. Josh sighed involuntarily. When he saw his face looking at him, he forgot to breathe. He handed him his Desert Eagle with a blank expression. Chase took it and raised the gun.
” …!”
“Josh!”
Mark and Isaac screamed at the same time.
Momentarily, Josh’s eyes blurred. It was then that he felt pain. Something hit the side of his head; at one point, his temple became wet and red, blood dripping.
Chase opened his mouth to speak to Josh, who was on the floor; looking down at him, with thin eyes, he distorted his mouth. But it didn’t end there, he slightly raised the gun in the air and raked it with his other hand. Chase immediately took aim at him. While everyone was nervous, he opened his mouth:
“Did we check it? If I shoot from this distance, your blood will splatter on me, won’t it?”
Josh wrapped his hands over his head. The bullet passed him. He screamed in surprise.
“Mr. Miller … Stop! Run away, Josh! Hurry!”
“Mr. Miller, you can’t do this …!”
Despite the bodyguards’ voices, Chase pulled the trigger again without hesitation. This time, Josh’s head would fly away. There is no one in the world who can escape a bullet at that distance. A heavy sound hurt his ears, Josh looked directly at Chase. Chase’s face was clearly upset. He pulled the trigger in succession, but the sound of his return was simply that of an empty, broken bullet.
“It is ruined.”
Chase spurred and dropped the Desert Eagle. A small sigh of relief flowed around. If he had fired again, the only thing left was to die.
Chase violently tousled his beautiful blonde hair, as if he was angry. Nobody opened their mouths. Everyone was still. They couldn’t even swallow hard, so they only managed to look at him. Meanwhile, Josh wondered why he couldn’t look away from such a crazy man.
Chase, who had been holding his breath for some time, randomly wiped the hair that had fallen from his face. Soon after, his fierce gaze suddenly fell on Josh, the next moment, he reached over and kicked him.
“Josh!”
Isaac screamed in contemplation.
Josh crouched down without even moaning. The sound of a pulse in the ears like tinnitus deepened. Chase turned to look at the ground.
“Take it and bring it, you bastards.”
He was referring to his Desert Eagle. He didn’t even care what had happened just before. He had given the order to the guard who was standing nearby, and he returned to the car. The guard team that woke up late scattered fast.
“You’re good?”
Isaac was late and helped Josh. Josh touched his temple with his hands and they were immediately stained with blood.
“Let’s go in and start treating the wound.”
Mark rushed forward and everyone followed him without talking about what happened.
✤✤✤✤✤✤
“What the hell is that son of a bitch complaining about?”
Josh sat on an empty sofa and sighed slowly, Isaac, who had been supporting him until then, burst into tears. Josh still leaned over with a tingling head and ice packs on his abdomen. He did not even speak. Mark shook his head too. It was fortunate that he only defeated him without shooting.
Henry took a new towel, pressed the wound. Josh laughed helplessly.
“Well why did you do that?”
At the same time, Henry hit him on the back.
“Why are you laughing? Henry, don’t do it!”
For the moment, Josh ducked without yelling. Isaac, who saw it, cried out urgently. Mark also rarely blamed him.
“Yes, don’t hit him at the moment.”
“Resignation.”
Next to him, Isaac said a word, but he didn’t understand it, his brain like jelly bouncing all over his skull.
Seth asked:
“Isn’t it really necessary to go to the hospital?”
Josh nodded silently. Suddenly,he wanted to see Pete like crazy. Kissing the soft cheek and holding his small body tightly seemed to ease all the pain.
With everyone saying nothing, the sound of a blow was heard, the leader of the previous guard entered and spoke:
“Can they continue to take control of the operation? We run out of time…”
He seemed to be deliberately looking away from Josh.
✤✤✤✤✤✤
“…”
The usual noisy restaurant was quiet. While they were sitting at a large table, stacking food and chewing; nobody said a word
“… Where are you now?”
Seth spoke in a weak voice. He was referring to the former team of bodyguards who left the mission and left with a very tired face. Lastly, it was clear that the rest of the members who had considered guarding the exterior would flee in fear until they reached the mansion. Mark responded with a bite of the beef hot dog in his mouth.
“Aren’t they crossing the border?”
“… I envy them.”
Everyone sympathized with Seth’s words.
Now they were leaving this country, tearing up their plane tickets. It was good, since Chase’s face could be seen everywhere, it was best to flee to a place where they avoided seeing him.
Josh was especially anxious. Damn, no matter how pretty he looks, it’s just look, you’ll never know what he really is like until you meet him on the inside. He was disappointed with himself. He was too weak to face him, Josh admitted bitterly.
“Where would you like to go?”
Mark said accidentally.
“I always wanted to go to Cuba, Grande it’s great .”
“Amazonia too, it’s fine. Sounds fun.”
Henry immediately responds sarcastically to Seth’s calm voice.
“There is no hot water or Internet. It’s going to be a lot of fun, of course.”
There would be no man in that place. Josh thought inwardly. It was hard to imagine Chase Miller sitting on the floor with his clothes wrinkled and dusty. If he was alone, he would have been filled with the desire to go to remote places far from the world, be it Amazonia or anywhere, but Josh had Pete. Still, he wanted to complete all of his son’s formal education.
“How about Alaska?”
Seth listened to Josh’s words, looking at him with a face like: why are you going there? Josh added by way of excuse:
“It’s quiet, there are few people.”
“It would be great to find a corner of the field.”
Again Henry was sarcastic. Then Seth found out.
“Canada is rural too. Do you really have to go to Alaska?”
It wasn’t a bad idea. Then he remembered something he had forgotten.
“Isaac, are you from Canada? What do you think of living there?”
Isaac, who hadn’t said much earlier, answered Josh’s question:
“I don’t know, it’s been a long time since I left, so I’ve forgotten about all Canadians.”
Isaac, who looked around wonderingly, realized belatedly.
“Ah,” he added, “they speak English there too.”
“Why are you really here?”
Henry pointed at his bruised head as if it was pathetic.
Josh declined to say that Isaac could have lived in a French-speaking area. Everyone knew he was from an English speaking area.
Mark said:
“You can’t quit, it’s worth it, it’s three times more than usual.”
“Ugh.”
As soon as he heard that, Josh drew a deep, painful moan from his throat.
“Don’t you think we should increase the payment? How will we work while he hits us like this?”
Isaac protested in a shrill voice. It was no longer a problem for Josh. The existence of man was a problem in itself. He never would have if it weren’t for that damn money in the first place. It is inevitable, he needs the money. Isaac’s words shook everyone’s ears, but Mark shook his head.
“Give up. Not sure what Miller’s main job is? Also, who is the eldest son? Nathaniel Miller.”
Of course, they knew the name. Satan in the legal world. A vampire without blood or tears. A demon lawyer who has never been defeated. It meant there was no corner to escape.
“Everyone be as careful as possible,” Mark said, and finished dinner without saying anything more.
✤✤✤✤✤✤
All those who returned to the mansion had a pale complexion. It wasn’t just because of the new job they had to start with. Now they had to tell Chase that they were the successors to the security team.
The full-time team leader stayed up to date. As soon as they show up, I’d be very excited to get away.
“Let’s go.”
The team leader turned to Josh, smiling brightly.
Mark was their leader and everyone was following him. Isaac withdrew.
“Why doesn’t Josh rest first? It’s almost as if we’ve already said hello.”
All eyes were on Josh at the same time. Embarrassed, Josh tried to say he was okay. But Isaac was faster.
“He was hit on the head and he has no symptoms at the moment, but I think he better rest. What is the problem with not saying hello? He won’t even remember how many people there were, much less our names, anyway.”
That was correct. Also, Josh in his presence would only be a bodyguard who was shot earlier. He may not even remember anymore, that he hits someone. That thought made Josh feel bitter.
“It is true.”
Mark also muttered as if sympathizing with Isaac’s words. He seemed to think for a moment and soon nodded.
“Yes, Josh, go and rest. If you don’t feel well, let me know right away. It’s just a showdown, it’s not a big deal.”
“Can’t Mark go alone and stamp his face?”
Henry showed his dark side. He muttered as if he was speaking to himself, but his voice was strong enough to be heard by all. Sadly, it was immediately rejected.
“Josh is resting, but let’s go with the rest. You have to do what you have to do.”
Henry quickly got frustrated, but didn’t say anything else. Thanks to this, Josh was able to go back to his room first and rest. That was a relief.
As soon as he lay down on the bed, he sighed. His head was still throbbing and aching, but it wasn’t unbearable.
He’d rather be too sick to think of anything . Ironically, the injury was not that severe. What made the mind heavier than that was the fact that only one day had passed, and he had to put up with that crazy dog named Chase Miller for six months .
